When I first came across PDF sewing patterns I wondered why anyone would ever use them, let alone Print PDF sewing Patterns and assemble… And, now I don’t know how I lived without the convenience of being able to print them on demand!

In all honesty, the reason why I use them is that I can shop for them from home and have them instantly, as I live in the country. But, all in all, there are many a good reason to use PDF sewing patterns. If you have been unsure of using them as I was, then this could sway you to start using them.

PDF patterns sewing patterns are generally cheaper as it is a ‘file’ and even with needing to print them yourself, it is more cost effective as well as easier to store.
Depending on who you buy your PDF sewing pattern from, you will find that most of them have the most amazing tutorials making it easier to follow and put your garment together than your standard paper pattern instructions.
Unless stated otherwise, you will find that PDF sewing patterns are multisized, which is fantastic for the family as they grow through the sizes, you will have them available on file to print and do so.
They also come with instructions on how to put the pattern pages together.
Being in PDF format, they can be opened on any computer format and are easily printed out on any desktop printer using A4 paper. You will just need to follow the printing instructions to make sure you select the correct settings on your printer while printing a test page with the test square to confirm before you print it in its entirety.
And, best of all, once you have downloaded and saved your PDF sewing pattern to a file on your computer you can use it as often as you like, just like a paper pattern, but without the storage.

When you get your PDF sewing pattern download it first must be saved to a computer before you can print it.
Once you have downloaded the file you can save it to your computer.
Now you are ready to print, but before printing the entire document, as previously mentioned, print the page with the ‘test square’on it to confirm it is printing to scale.
Also, I tend to print the pattern pieces ONLY and view the tutorial on my computer to save both paper and ink. You should also read any ‘pattern assembly instructions’if there are any included in the pattern you have purchased to set up your pattern correctly.
I would suggest that before you run off and buy your first PDF sewing pattern to try, find free patterns to practice on and build your confidence up with little projects first. I found that by making small items that did not need to fit, like a garment would, that I found patterns for bibs etc that were a little more flexible in their sizing before I had any interest in PDF clothing patterns.
